MDaemon incorporates the very latest antispam and antivirus technologies available. Combining open standard methods with third party components from SpamAssassin, Kaspersky and Commtouch, the net result is that your users' email stays clean and protected from spam, viruses and other malware transmitted by email.
Outbreak Protection using Recurrent Pattern Detection (RPD) technology from Commtouch
MDaemon's Outbreak Protection feature uses Commtouch's RDP technology to detect spam and virus infected emails based on the way an email message has been seen to be spreading across the Internet in recent hours. The technology does not rely on specific message signatures in the way that traditional antivirus applications do and so provides 'Zero Hour' protection against virus outbreaks - protecting your users until the latest virus signature updates are received by your antivirus engine. Outbreak Protection is a feature provided as part of MDaemon's SecurityPlus plug-in when it is used in conjunction with MDaemon Pro.
Kaspersky antivirus engine
MDaemon's antivirus protection is powered by Kaspersky Labs' scanning engine which has proven to be one of the most effective antivirus scanners on the market, consistently providing the latest antivirus signatures faster than other vendors. The Kaspersky antivirus engine is provided as part of MDaemon's easy to install SecurityPlus plug-in and once installed, SecurityPlus will automate the detection of viruses on all email passing through the MDaemon server. SecurityPlus automatically updates with the latest virus signatures each day and provides multiple options for actions to take upon detection of a virus such as notifying the postmaster/recipient/sender, removing the virus and deleting or quarantining the email.
SpamAssassin heuristic filtering engine
MDaemon's spam filter uses SpamAssassin heuristic filtering to apply many hundreds of sophisticated rules against arriving email to help detect spam.
SpamAssassin bayesian filtering
MDaemon's spam filter can apply further statistical analysis to a message based upon data gathered from messages that have been previously classed as 'definitely spam' or 'definitely genuine' by MDaemon and its users. Correctly used, bayesian filtering can help tune MDaemon's spam filtering to the specific type of email received by an organisation.
DNS blacklists
DNS blacklisting is a traditional technique for blocking email from servers which have had their IP address listed on certain blacklists. By default MDaemon uses one blacklist service which is run by SpamHaus who have been proven to provide a very reliable service over the years, but you can add your own additional services very easily.
